Splits Home Doubleheader With Westminster
Penn
State Behrend split a home doubleheader with Westminster on Thursday, March
29 at the Behrend Fields. With the split, softball is now 7-8 on the
season.
In game one Westminster (7-7) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first
inning. That lead would hold as the Titans got three more runs in the
top of the sixth inning and would hold the blue and white scoreless the rest
of the way for the 5-1 victory. Senior Kristin Macha (Export/Franklin
Regional) was 3-for-3 and Katie Whitby (Tyrone/Tyrone) went 2-for-3 and
scored the only run for Behrend.
In game two Behrend would score a run in the bottom of the second inning and
that 1-0 lead would end up as the final score as Sandra Jaussi (Bethel
Park/Bethel Park) and Julie Koman
(McKees Rocks/Montour) would combine for the shutout win. Each pitcher
gave up just two hits, shutting the door on the Titans hopes. Macha's
hot hitting continued as she went 2-for-3 in game two, while Rachelle
Lawrence (Warren Center/Northeast Bradford) scored the game's only run.
Softball is next in action on Saturday, March 31 when the Behrend Lions
travel to Mt. Aloysius for an AMCC doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
