Behrend Softball Announces Team Awards for 2007 Season

Penn State Behrend softball has announced their team awards for the 2007 season.  The awards are given out based on both player and coach input.

The team's Most Valuable Player was given to AMCC Player of the Year Nikki Kaschauer (South Park/South Park).  Kaschauer was consistently stellar at the plate all season for the Behrend Lions, hitting a team high .438 with 11 doubles, four triples, and two home runs.  She threw out 60 runners from second base and ended the season with .954 fielding percentage.

Most Improved Player went to sophomore pitcher Laura Frischkorn (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls).  Frischkorn stepped up big in her sophomore campaign with 15 appearances on the mound, going 3-3 with a 4.28 ERA.  Frischkorn recorded  29 strikeouts, with only 16 walks and 31 earned runs, all second on the team behind Julie Koman (McKees Rocks/Montour). 

The Rookie of the Year for the blue and white was Allie Olszowka (Oil City/Oil City).  The versatile Olszowka saw time both on the mound and at  third base.  She started in 20 games at third threw out 35 runners from the hot corner.  Olszowka ended the season at 3-1 on the bump in four starts and had two complete games .

Finally, the Sportsmanship/Leadership award was given to senior pitcher Sandy Jaussi (Bethel Park/Bethel Park).  Jaussi was a vocal leader on the team, closing out four years under head coach Stacy Pondo.  Jausssi ended her career with 288 innings pitched, 155 strikeouts and a 3.55 ERA.  She leaves her name in the Behrend record books in multiple pitching categories.
