State Behrend Softball Remains Unbeaten in AMCC Play
The
blue and white took on the Frostburg State Bobcats on Sunday afternoon on
the campus of Penn State Behrend. The Behrend Lions took game one by a 9-1
mark in five innings and game two by the score of 2-0.
On senior day, the Behrend Lions would get on the board in the bottom of the
first. Back to back doubles by seniors Katie Whitby (Tyrone/Tyrone) and
Allison Babish (Coraopolis/Montour) put the blue and white up 1-0.
Senior Nikki Kaschauer (South Park/South Park) singled in Babish for the
second run of the inning.
Behrend extended its lead in the bottom half of the third. The blue and
white loaded the bases before Kimmy Pol (Erie/Central) stepped to the plate
with two outs and hit a grand slam. This put the Behrend Lions up 6-0 after
three innings of play. Frostburg would get score one in the top half of the
fifth to make it 6-1 entering the bottom half of the fifth. The blue and
white plated two runs to put the Behrend Lions up 8-1.
Maddie Wieser (Erie/Collegiate Academy) hit a homerun in the bottom of the
fifth to put the blue and white up by eight ending the game. Senior pitcher
Julie Koman (McKees Rocks/Montour) earned her eleventh win of the season
pitching five innings, one run, zero earned, and seven strike outs.
Kaschauer went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Pol added two hits to
the Behrend Lions 12 hits in game one while driving in four runners.
In game two the blue and white got one run in the bottom of the second.
Laura Frischkorn (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls) tripled to drive in Amy Greene
who singled earlier in the inning. The Behrend Lions added another run in
the bottom half of the third. Rachelle Lawrence (Warren Center/Northeast
Bradford) drove in fellow senior Whitby to secure a 2-0 lead.
Emma Hahn (Smethport/Smethport) took a no hitter into the sixth but gave up
a single to the second batter of the inning. Hahn finished the game giving
up one hit and striking out six. Whitby went 2-for-3 in game two with one
run scored while Frischkorn went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
The Behrend Lions (24-5, 13-0) will play five games in three days starting
with league foe Hilbert on April 22. They will then host Washington
and Jefferson on April 23 and wrap up the week with Franciscan on April 24.
