Behrend Softball Splits Doubleheader with Grove City Wolverines
The Behrend Lions softball team
(30-6) split a doubleheader with the Grove City Wolverines on Wednesday,
April 29 in Erie. The first game began yesterday in Grove City and
resumed play with the Wolverines leading the Behrend Lions 3-2 in the fourth
inning.
Play started with Behrend runners on second and third, and those runners
would score as the blue and white would lead 4-3 after four innings of play.
Behrend put up four more runs in the sixth and went on to win game one 8-3.
Nikki Kaschauer (South Park/South Park) went 2-for-3 in game one with
two RBIs. Ashley Gruber (Burton, OH/Berkshire) had two hits and scored
two runs, and Julie Koman (McKees Rocks/Montour) pitched a complete game for
win 30 for Behrend.
In game two Grove City broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom of the fifth
inning and held on to the one-run lead to win game two 3-2. Allison
Babish (Coraopolis/Montour) was 2-for-3 and walked once, while Gruber had a
hit and an RBI.
Behrend is now set to host the AMCC Championship Tournament this weekend,
May 1-3 at the Behrend softball field. The blue and white earned the
#1 seed for the six-team, double-elimination tournament by roughing up the
rest of the league on their way to an 18-0 conference record.
Tournament games begin Friday at 10:00 a.m.
