Behrend Softball Splits Doubleheader with Grove City Wolverines

The Behrend Lions softball team (30-6) split a doubleheader with the Grove City Wolverines on Wednesday, April 29 in Erie.  The first game began yesterday in Grove City and resumed play with the Wolverines leading the Behrend Lions 3-2 in the fourth inning.

Play started with Behrend runners on second and third, and those runners would score as the blue and white would lead 4-3 after four innings of play.  Behrend put up four more runs in the sixth and went on to win game one 8-3.

Nikki Kaschauer (South Park/South Park) went 2-for-3 in game one with two RBIs.  Ashley Gruber (Burton, OH/Berkshire) had two hits and scored two runs, and Julie Koman (McKees Rocks/Montour) pitched a complete game for win 30 for Behrend.

In game two Grove City broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and held on to the one-run lead to win game two 3-2.  Allison Babish (Coraopolis/Montour) was 2-for-3 and walked once, while Gruber had a hit and an RBI.

Behrend is now set to host the AMCC Championship Tournament this weekend, May 1-3 at the Behrend softball field.  The blue and white earned the #1 seed for the six-team, double-elimination tournament by roughing up the rest of the league on their way to an 18-0 conference record.  Tournament games begin Friday at 10:00 a.m.
