Game One: Medaille 1, Frostburg State 0

The #3 Medaille Mavericks and # 6 Frostburg State Bobcats battle Friday morning to start off the tournament.  The Mavericks earn a 1-0 win in a well-pitched game off of slugger Alyssa Zemla's solo homerun in the fourth inning.  Medaille advances to play #2 Mt. Game Two:  Pitt-Greensburg 5, La Roche 4 (10 innings)

The #4 Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats take on the #5 La Roche Redhawks in game two.  Pitt-Greensburg puts two runs up in the bottom of the first but La Roche gets one run in the sixth and one in the seventh to send the game into extra innings.  Both teams score in the eighth inning including a homerun by La Roche's Kayla Strittmatter, to make it 3-3.  In the tenth inning, La Roche goes up 4-3 before Pitt-Greensburg rallies.  Kelly Walsh doubles to bring in Haley Gearhart and Taylor Kimmel singles to drive in Walsh for the winning run.  Pitt-Greensburg advances to play #1 Penn State Behrend in Game 4 on Friday, while La Roche will play an elimination game on Saturday (Game 5).

Game Three:  Mt. Aloysius vs. Medaille

The #2 Mt. Aloysius Mounties take on the #3 Medaille Mavericks in game three.
Mt. Aloysius got solid pitching and hitting for a 6-1 win over the Mavericks in the third game on Friday.  Two triples in the first inning gave the Mounties all the runs they would need.  The battery of Whitney Giedroc and Carrie Shevock were solid on both sides of the plate.  Both went 2-for-3 with a combined three RBI while Shevock pitched seven innings, scattering five hits, giving up one run and striking out five.  Alyssa Zemla got the Mavericks on the board in the top of the seventh with a solo home run to make it a 6-1 game.  Medaille plays La Roche on Saturday at 9:00 a.m., while Mt. Aloysius will play Penn State Behrend in tournament game eight on Saturday.

Game Four:  Penn State Behrend vs. Pitt-Greensburg

The # 1 Penn State Behrend Lions took on the # 4 Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats in the final game on day one.  The blue and white jumped on the Bobcats in the first as Ashley Gruber doubled to score Allison Babish.  Nikki Kaschauer made it a two run game with a triple that drove in Gruber.  Rachelle Lawrence singled to right center to score Kaschauer and give the Behrend Lions a three run lead.  The blue and white added two more runs in the inning to put the tournament hosts up 5-0.

Five runs was more than enough for senior pitcher Julie Koman.  Koman took a perfect game into the sixth before Pitt-Greensburg's Lindsay Littler drove a ball through the left side just past a diving Lawrence to break up the perfect game.  Koman through her eleventh complete game of the year while it was her third shutout.  She allowed only one hit and struck out four to improve to 15-1 on the year.  Lia Sorce was 3-for-3 and Babish went 2-for-4 as five different Behrend players scored a run.

Pitt-Greensburg will play Frostburg State in the second game on Saturday (Tournament Game 6), while Behrend plays Mt. Aloysius in Tournament Game 8.
