Behrend Sweeps AMCC Women's Tennis All-Conference Awards

Behrend women's tennis capped its third straight AMCC championship season by sweeping all three individual awards and landing nine members on the All-Conference Teams. 

Junior Allison Mudrey (Hickory, PA/Hermitage HS) was voted Player of the Year for the third time, completing another undefeated season in AMCC competition in both #1 singles and #1 doubles.  Mudrey went 7-0 in singles and 8-0 in doubles.  Freshman Karen Hobaugh (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown HS) was recognized as the Newcomer of the Year.  She won the #4 singles crown after a perfect regular season, and was the runner up at #2 doubles in the conference championship.  Behrend Lions' Jeff Barger was named Coach of the Year for the third season running, guiding the women's squad to a 15-1 record and the league title.  Mudrey was also recognized on the All-Conference First-Team for both her singles and doubles play.  Hobaugh made the First-Team for her singles play and the Second-Team for doubles.

Other Behrend representatives on the All-Conference Team included Christy Calvert (Warren/Mercyhurst Prep), Mindy Calvert (Warren/Warren), Kelly Matlaka (Heidelberg/Chartiers Valley), and Amy Brem (Kersey/St. Mary's).

Christy Calvert made the First-Team for her 6-1 AMCC record and the Second-Team for a 6-1 record in doubles play.  Calvert was the individual champion of #3 singles at the AMCC Championships.  Mindy Calvert made the First-Team for her efforts in doubles action, going a perfect 8-0 and winning the #1 doubles flight in the conference tournament.  Matlaka was awarded Second-Team recognition for a 4-4 AMCC record.  Brem rounded out the Second-Team, going 4-2 in AMCC sixth-flight singles.
