Behrend Lions Open 2007 Home Slate With Win Over FSU

On Friday, September 7, the Penn State Behrend (1-0) women's tennis opened its fall home season with a routine 9-0 win over the visiting Frostburg State Bobcats (0-2).

Behrend's play was strong with three freshman players competing in their first-ever collegiate match. "It was a very good match for our first match of the season," said head coach Jeff Barger.

Allison Mudrey (Hermitage/Hickory), Hillary Lasher (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern), Christy Calvert (Warren/Mercyhurst Prep), Karen Hobaugh (Kutztown/Kutztown), Elissa Swartz (Warren/Warren) and Erin Bliley (Erie/Mercyhurst Prep) all won in both singles and doubles play. Behrend snagged all three doubles victories by identical 8-2 scores.

The Behrend Invitational is next on the schedule on Saturday, September 8. Last season Behrend defeated Allegheny 3-2 to win the invitational championship.
