Women's Tennis Enjoys Win at Behrend Invitational

On Saturday, September 8, Penn State Behrend tennis team hosted its eighth annual Behrend Invitational. 

Behrend's play was strong with four freshman players competing in their first-ever collegiate match. "It was a very good match for our first match of the season," said head coach Jeff Barger.

In doubles play freshmen Erin Bliley (Erie/Mercyhurst) and Elise Jones (Pittsfield,MA/St. Joseph) won with a strong 8-2 finish.  Senior Amy Brem (Kersey/St. Mary's) also partnered with Jones to win their match against Bethany 8-3.

In singles action, eight behrend members went victorious in their matches.  Among the competing Allison Mudrey (Hermitage/Hickory), Karen Hobaugh (Kutztown/Kutztown), Christy Calvert (Warren/Mercyhurst), Kelly Matalka (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley), Hillary Lasher (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern), and Elissa Stewart (Warren/Warren). 

Defeating Bethany and Chatham, the blue and white went on to face Geneva for tournament champion, where they went on to win 3-2, improving their record to 4-0 on the season.  The women will next travel to Fredonia State to face the Blue Devils on September 12, at 3:30 p.m.
