Behrend Lions Tennis Continues Fast Start and Improves to 8-0
The 2007 Penn State Behrend women's tennis team continues to roll with another victory on Tuesday, September 18. The Behrend Lions dropped Fredonia 7-2 to move to a perfect 8-0 on the season.
Behrend bounced the Blue Devils 6-3 in New York last Tuesday. Today the blue and white earned victories in two of the three doubles matches behind the play of senior Allison Mudrey (Hermitage/Hickory) and freshman Hillary Lasher (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern) at first doubles winning 8-2, while sophomore Christy Calvert (Warren/Mercyhurst Prep) and junior Karen Hobaugh (Kutztown/Kutztown) earned an 8-3 win at second doubles. Fredonia squeaked out an 8-5 win at third doubles.
In singles play, Behrend won at the number one
through five positions before Fredonia snagged the sixth singles
match. Winners on the day included Allison Mudrey
(Hermitage/Hickory), Hillary Lasher (Lakewood, NY/Southwestern), Karen Hobaugh
(Kutztown/Kutztown), Erin Bliley (Erie/Mercyhurst Prep), and Elissa
Swartz (Warren/Warren).
Next up for coach Barger's squad is a road match at Westminster on
Friday, September 21. Then on Sunday Oneonta State travels to Erie
to play on the new Behrend Courts at 11:00 a.m.
