Behrend Lions Cruise to 9-0 AMCC Win Over Frostburg State

The Penn State Behrend women's tennis team opened its 2008 season at home on Friday, September 5, cruising to a 9-0 AMCC win over the visiting Frostburg State Bobcats.

The match was played indoors at Westwood Racquet Club because of rain.

Karen Hobaugh (Kutztown/Kutztown) teamed with Christy Calvert (Warren/Mercyhurst Prep) to win at first doubles by an 8-5 score. Hobaugh then helped the blue and white pick-up the league win by earning the victory at fourth flight singles 6-1, and 6-1. Calvert won at second singles 6-2, and 6-1.

Next up for the blue and white will be the Behrend Invitational Tournament. Play begins tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. with Behrend playing with Bethany and Fredonia State battling Frostburg. Then at 11:30 a.m. Geneva will face Bethany.

Last fall Behrend handled Geneva 3-2 in the Championship match to claim the first-place trophy. The event is scheduled for the Behrend courts, but could be moved indoors to Westwood if weather becomes an issue.
