Behrend Volleyball Dominates Hilbert on Junker Center Floor

Penn State Behrend Volleyball dominated the Hilbert Hawks on the Junker Center Floor on Wednesday, October 21 by a score of 3-0.  Scores for the sets were 25-6, 25-13 and 25-8.

Before the match, Behrend seniors Brooke Gallentine (Mt.Pleasant/Southmoreland), Carissa Johnston (Cambridge Springs/Cambridge Springs) and Sheila Ogden (Grove City/Grove City) were honored for their highly successful careers.  The trio then contributed to the team's 40th win in the Junker Center over the past four years.

Behrend was in charge from the beginning of the contest answering Hilbert's first point with eight unanswered of their own.  Behrend went on to cruise through the first set and took momentum into the second.  The second set was more of the same as the blue and white jumped out to 17-8 early lead and prevailed 25-13.  Behrend wasted no time in the third as they built a lead and stuck to it to close the match out.

Standouts for Behrend were Mary Sperry (Atlantic/Conneaut Lake) who posted eight aces and four kills.  Danielle Woods (Pittsburgh/Baldwin) came through with seven digs and five aces.  Stef Kelley (Moon Twp./Moon) recorded five kills and five digs, while Carly Higham (Meadville/Meadville) handed out nine assists to go with three digs.

Hilbert falls to 4-15 and 1-5  in the AMCC. The Behrend Lions improve their record to 17-7 overall and 7-1 in the AMCC.  next up for the blue and white will be five straight road games starting with AMCC foe Penn State Altoona on Saturday, October 24.  Behrend will then have another AMCC contest against Medaille on Tuesday, October 27.
