Behrend Volleyball Set To Host AMCC Championships

Penn State Behrend women's volleyball will host the AMCC Championship tournament this Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4 in the Junker Center.  The blue and white earned the AMCC regular season title, #1 seed, and right to host the conference tournament after completing their second consecutive AMCC regular season undefeated.  Behrend currently sits with a 26-2 overall record and unblemished 9-0 mark in conference play.

The Behrend women will battle #4 Lake Erie (12-22, 5-4) in a semifinal match at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.  The second semifinal match, set to begin at 8:00 p.m. will feature #2 seed Penn State Altoona (15-12, 8-1) against #3 Frostburg State (13-18, 7-2).  In first round games on Tuesday, October 31, Lake Erie defeated Pitt-Greensburg 3-1 to advance to semifinal play, while Frostburg State dismissed Pitt-Bradford in three straight games.

The two semifinal winners from Friday will square off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday for the AMCC Championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.  The Behrend Lions will be trying to earn back-to-back AMCC Championships, and their third conference title overall.

Head coach Phil Pisano said, "One of our goals when we began the season was to host the AMCC Tournament.  The players came through with strong performances when we needed them and have really been focused this season.  Now we have our sights set on earning two more wins on our home court and the AMCC Championship."

On Saturday, October 28, Behrend traveled to Penn State Altoona to play for the AMCC regular season title.  Both teams entered the match at 8-0 in conference play, and Behrend improved to 9-0 with a 30-25, 23-30, 30-16, 30-23 win.  Elaine Voltz (Saxonburg/Knoch) finished with 18 kills, while Brittany Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell) led the defensive effort with 25 digs.
