Behrend Volleyball Defeats Mt. Aloysius 3-0, Move to 6-1 in AMCC
The
Penn State Behrend women's volleyball defeated the Mt. Aloysius Mounties (13-10,
3-3) in three straight games, 30-26, 30-27, 31-29. The women are now 16-11
on the year and
6-1 in the AMCC Conference, with only three conference games left in
the regular season.
In game one, the Behrend Lions started out down to the Mounties. The middle of the match went back and fourth until the women pulled ahead and downed Mt. Aloysius 20-26. Game two brought much of the same. Each team taking turns earning points. The blue and white pulled ahead to a 11-10 lead and held off the Mounties to earn a 30-27 win.
Game three started with Mt. Aloysius dominating the game.
The Mounties edged a 11 point lead half way through the match with the score
being 13-24. The Behrend Lions triumphed back, making up the points to
tie the score at 26. The women went on to defeat Mt. Aloysius 31-29 in
game three.
Jenna Benzenhoeffer (Murrysville/Franklin Regional) had nine kills on the
day with only one error. Other top performers for the Behrend Lions
included Shelia Ogden (Grove City/Grove City) who recorded 13 kills and
freshman Danielle Woods (Pittsburgh/Baldwin) had eight kills on the day.
Senior Deanna Ciccarelli (Penn Hills/Penn Hills) had a great performance,
including serving out the rest of game three when the blue and white trailed
26-29. She finished out the day with 14 digs and two aces.
Coach Phil Pisano was pleased with his team's performance today. "I
was really proud of the team for not giving up when we were down," said
Pisano. "We struggled with confidence this season, so I feel this was
a big step for us."
Upcoming games feature more important AMCC opponents for the
women.
On Wednesday the team travels to Pitt-Bradford for a 7:00 p.m. match
against the Bobcats. Then on Saturday, October 27 the women close out
the regular season when they host Penn State Altoona at 4:00 p.m.
