Behrend Lions Dump Blue Devils on Valentine's Day 70-64

The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team (14-9, 10-6) held off Fredonia State (14-8, 9-5), winning 70-64 Tuesday evening at the Junker Center.

Junior Rachel Slomski (Erie/McDowell) got the blue and white off to a fast start going for ten points in the first half, and finished with 17 points making 8 of 15 from the field.  Both teams shot over 50% from the field in the first half but Behrend grabbed seven offensive rebounds and made six more shots to take a 36-27 lead into the break.

The Behrend Lions would push their lead to 15 points in the second half at 44-29 with 16 minutes to go.  However, the Blue Devils stormed back to briefly take the lead at 55-54 with just under six minutes to play.  The Behrend women then showed great heart getting baskets from Jessica Serafin (Boalsburg/State College), Megan Bielanin (Erie/Mercyhurst Prep), and Slomski to answer with seven straight points and hold on for the victory.  Serafin had 15 points including four three-point shots and Bielanin finished with 13 points.

Leading all scorers was Fredonia State's Danielle Bleecker who posted 19 points while Cheryl Kindzia finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.

The women wrap up the regular season this weekend when they face two AMCC opponents.  Behrend will battle La Roche on Friday, February 17 in a game televised on Image Sports at 6:00 p.m. and finish the weekend with Lake Erie on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
