The Behrend Lions Survive the Storm on Senior Day

The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team improved to 16-9 and 12-6 in the AMCC to close out the regular-season with a 65-50 home win over the Lake Erie Storm (6-17, 5-13).

Behrend jumped out to a 21-13 lead half way through the first, but Lake Erie was able to stay close, keeping the lead at eight, 35-28 going into the break.  Jessica Serafin (Boalsburg/State College) and Rachel Slomski (Erie/McDowell) each finished the half with nine points a piece.

In the second, the Storm came out firing and closed the gap to within six with six minutes left in the game.  Brittany Mays then took the game over, scoring eight points in five minutes.  Mays ended the game with 20 points, eight boards, and three assists.  Serafin finished with 15 points, while Slomski netted 13 along with 4 rebounds.

The women have secured the number-four seed for the upcoming AMCC playoffs. Behrend is set to host the fifth-seeded Pitt-Bradford (11-13, 9-8) Panthers on Tuesday, February 21 at 6:00 p.m. in the Junker Center. Early this season Behrend dropped Bradford 70-49 in the Junker while the Panthers won 39-34 on their home floor on February 11.

A year ago, Behrend and Bradford were in this same situation with the blue and white hosting and defeating the Panthers 64-43. Behrend then lost to Frostburg State in the semi-finals as the Bobcats went on the claim the 2004-05 AMCC Championship and clinch the berth to the NCAA Tournament.
