Men's and Women's Basketball Prepares for Another Year of AMCC Post-Season Action

Once again this season, both the men's and women's Behrend basketball teams have made the post-season AMCC tournament.  Both first-round match-ups will be held in the Junker Center on Tuesday, February 21.  The women come in as the number four seed and will face off against fifth-seeded Pitt-Bradford at 6:00 p.m.  While the men find themselves in the three seed, hosting sixth-place Frostburg State at 8:00 p.m.  Tickets are free for Behrend students, $2 for non-Behrend students, $3 for seniors, and $4 for the general public.  All tickets can be purchased at the door.

The winner of the women's game will move on to the AMCC semifinals at tournament host Medaille College to take on the conference-champion Mavericks on Friday, February 24.  The other first-round women's game pits defending champion, third-seeded Frostburg State against number six Hilbert, with the winner advancing on to play number two Pitt-Greensburg at Medaille.  Behrend looks to reclaim the AMCC crown that they won two seasons ago in 2003-04.  The blue and white have hosted the tourney on several occasions, most recently in 2002-03 and again in 2003-04.  The AMCC tournament started in 1997-98 and has seen Behrend win it twice, Altoona twice, Frostburg State twice, and Pitt-Bradford and Pitt-Greensburg once each.

On the men's side, AMCC champion Lake Erie College will host the tournament.  The winner of Behrend vs. Frostburg State will travel to Lake Erie to take on the second-seeded Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats Friday, February 24.  The winner of the other first-round match-up, between fourth-seeded La Roche and fifth-seeded Hilbert, will go to Lake Erie to play the top-seeded Storm.  Behrend enters the tournament as the defending champs, winning the tournament in 2004-05.  They hosted the tourney in both 2002-03 and again in 2003-04.  The tournament has seen eight champions since 1997-98, Behrend has won it twice, Pitt-Greensburg twice, Pitt-Bradford twice, and La Roche and Frostburg State have each captured the title once.
