Women's Basketball Prepares for Top-Seeded Medaille College

The Women's basketball team will travel to Medaille College Friday, February 24, for an AMCC tournament semifinal round match-up with the Mavericks, scheduled for 5:00 p.m.  Medaille won the rights to host the tournament after going 23-1 in the regular season and winning the AMCC.

Fourth-seeded Behrend defeated the five seed Pitt-Bradford on Tuesday, February 21 in a thrilling two-point game that went down to the wire.  Top-seeded Medaille, along with the number two seed, Pitt-Greensburg had a first round bye.  Greensburg will face third-seeded Frostburg State on Friday at 8:00 p.m.

Behrend was led by junior Rachel Slomski (Erie/McDowell) in the team's victory over Pitt-Bradford.  Slomski had all of the blue and white's first 12 points, she netted 16 on the game.  Brittany Mays (Knox/Keytone) enters the game with 758 career points and 489 career rebounds and was this weeks AMCC Player of the Week.  Mays averaged 15.5 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 3.5 apg, and 2.0 spg in the two game stretch.

Behrend has been the AMCC regular-season champions five out of the last eight years.  Coach Fornari has led the team to two ECAC bids and two NCAA bids since 2000.  Behrend ended the regular season leading the AMCC in three-point field goal percentage (33%), and free-throw percentage (75%).

Medaille had a first-round bye in the tournament after completing a dream like regular season in which they went 23-1 (10-0 on the road).  In just two seasons with the AMCC, the Mavericks have put together back-to-back 20-win seasons and a trip to the ECACs last year.  The team is led by sophomore Amanda Baker who averages a double-double and won the AMCC newcomer of the year and co-player of the year last season.

The winner of Friday's contest will move on to play the winner of #2 Pitt-Greensburg vs. #3 Frostburg on Saturday, February 25 at 3 p.m.
