Women's Basketball Ends Season in AMCC Semifinals

The Behrend women's basketball team (17-10) fell to top-seeded Medaille College Friday, February 24, in the AMCC semifinals by a score of 62-54 to close out the 2005-2006 season.  Medaille (24-1) would go on to defeat Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday to win the AMCC Championship.

Fourth-seeded Behrend defeated the five seed Pitt-Bradford 55-53 on Tuesday, February 21 to earn a spot in the AMCC semifinals.  Friday against Medaille, a young Behrend team fought hard for 40 minutes and were able to tie the game at 31 points each in the second half.  However, the blue and white were unable to capture the lead and ultimately saw their four game winning streak end as the Mavericks pulled away for the eight point victory.

Behrend was led by junior forward Rachel Slomski (Erie/McDowell) who scored 16 points and added nine rebounds.  Sophomore guard Jessica Serafin (Boalsburg/State College) also finished with 16 points and was 4-of-4 on three-point field goals.  Junior guard Brittany Mays (Knox/Keytone) added eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
