Behrend Women Succumb to Fredonia Second-Half
Comeback
The
Behrend women's basketball team fell to the Fredonia State Blue Devils 55-45 in the
championship game of the Behrend Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday, November 19.
The women dominated the first-half of play, going into the break up 26-17,
but fell behind after the Blue Devils mounted a 16-2 run to start off the
second half.
Behrend limited Fredonia
State to 27% shooting in the first half as the Behrend Lions were up nine
after one half of play. The second-half saw Fredonia shoot an
impressive 58% from the field while holding the blue and white to just 33%.
Behrend was led offensively
by Brittany Mays (Knox/Keystone), who finished with 15 points and 11
boards.
Victoria Innes (Erie/McDowell) chipped in 14, while Meagan Bielanin (Erie/Mercyhurst
Prep) added nine points, three rebounds, and three assists.
Both Mays and Innes earned
All-Tournament honors, along with Justine Pagenhardt of Marietta, Denise
Kennedy of Waynesburg, and Cheryl Kindzia and Maria Scaffidi, both of
Fredonia.
Kindzia put up 15 points, six boards, three assists, and two blocks for the
Blue Devils, while Scaffidi connected for 10 points, five rebounds, and six
assists.
In the consolation game Waynesburg rolled to a 67-55 victory over Marietta.
Waynesburg led the Pioneers by a 40-28 mark at the break after shooting 50%
from the floor in the first half. Leading the way for the Yellow
Jackets was Johnna Deco who scored all of her team high 14 points in the
first half.
Behrend will meet Fredonia again, this time on their court on November 25.
Look for the blue and white back in the Junker center on November, 29, when
the Mt. Aloysius Mounties come to town.
