Behrend Lions Win Winter Classic Championship in the Junker Center

The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team captured the Winter Classic Tournament championship with a 65-51 win over Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday. 

Tournament MVP Meagan Bielanin (Erie/Mercyhurst Prep) worked for nine points, eight rebounds and two blocks in the victory. She had a super weekend hitting for 24 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and a steal.

Joining Bielanin on the all-tournament squad were teammates Victoria Innes (Erie/McDowell) and Brittany Mays (Knox/Keystone). Innes averaged 12.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg in the pair of games, while Mays accumulated 23 points, 10 boards, six assists and 11 steals as Behrend improves to 8-2 on the season.

Mt. St. Joseph (5-6) was led by Shanika Logan with 13 points, four steals and three assists. Christina Marsh chipped in eight points and four rebounds after scoring a team-high 19 the night before. Both Logan and Marsh earned all-tournament honors.  

In the consolation contest, W & J dropped Hood 67-24 behind a balanced scoring attack. Emily Hays was named to the all-tournament team for W & J.

Next up for the blue and white will be an AMCC road game on January 6 at Penn State Altoona. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
