Behrend Drops Medaille In Battle for Top Spot in  AMCC Hoops

The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team picked up a huge home win 50-49, over the Medaille Mavericks (9-4, 5-1) on Wednesday night in the Junker Center.

Behrend (10-2, 5-1) took their first lead of the game at the 16:27 mark of the second half and gained only their second lead of the contest after junior Julia Andrus (Corry/Corry) stepped to the line to nail a pair of free-throws with eight seconds remaining in the game. Medaille's Amanda Baker the AMCC's leading scorer missed a defended 15-footer as timed expired.

The blue and white trailed early in the first half 21-7 at the 9:04 mark before fighting back to get within three at the half. Behrend entered the half down 26-23 after a 9-1 run going into the break. Victoria Innes (Erie/McDowell) was big working for eight point and eight boards while Brittany Mays (Knox/Keystone) added 11 points on 5 x 10 from the field.

Mays had a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds, while Innes chipped in a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. Medaille was led by Carissa Ferrucci's 12 points.  Behrend created 19 Maverick turnovers and limited them to 38% from the field. The Mavericks also shot 31% from the line making only five of sixteen attempts.

Next up for the blue and white will be an AMCC game in the Junker Center on Saturday, January 13 against La Roche (2-9, 1-4) at 4:00 p.m. This will be their third of fourteen straight conference games.
