Moravian Upends Behrend Women in ECAC Tournament 72-56

The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team concluded the 2006-07 season with a rare home loss to Moravian on Wednesday night by a 72-56 margin. Behrend finishes with an overall mark of 21-6, while the Greyhounds leap to 17-11 and advance to Friday's ECAC semi-finals.  

Behrend jumped out to a 9-0 run to start the game but Moravian was able to weather the storm and came back to tie the game up at 14 with ten minutes remaining.  The Greyhounds would go on to extend a  nine point lead of their own, 30-21 with 2:30 left.  The blue and white closed out the half the way they began, scoring six unanswered and pulling to within three, 30-27 at the break.  Victoria Innes (Erie/McDowell) led all scorers through one half of play with nine points.  Brittany Mays (Knox/Keystone) pulled in six boards to go along with her six points.

The Greyhounds opened the second twenty minutes with a 9-0 spurt and never looked back. Behrend was paced offensively by Innes and Mays with 13 apiece. Mays also hauled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Moravian, who shot 58% from the field in the second half was lead by Kelly Applegate's 16 points on 8 of 11 from the floor. Jessica Foran added an even 12 in the sixteen point win.  Moravian will now play the winner of the #3 Albright vs. #6 Neumann game played on Wednesday night.

Behrend was making its seventh appearance in the ECAC Tournament.  The blue and white last competed in ECAC tournament in 2002-03 and were champions of the South Region in 1995-96 under head coach Roz Fornari and also won the championship in 1991-92.
