John Carroll Drops Behrend 77-64 in Consolation Game of Tip-Off Tournament

The women's basketball team lost to John Carroll 77-64 in the consolation game of the Behrend Tip-Off Tournament on
Saturday, November 17.

After losing a heartbreaking double-overtime contest Friday evening, most wondered how Behrend would play early on Saturday. The women's team quickly answered that question by sprinting to an 11-0 lead in the first two minutes and thirty-five seconds of the game. Behrend was on fire hitting 60% of its field-goal attempts to head to the break up 42-36.

Kayla O'Connor (Erie/Seneca) carried the offense in the first-twenty minutes by connecting on eight-of-nine from the floor for 16 markers. Anne Priester (Wattsburg/Seneca) came off the bench to contribute six points, a rebound, a steal and an assist in thirteen valuable minutes of action.

However it was a tale of two halves as John Carroll owned the second period outscoring the blue and white 41-22 holding Behrend to 16% from the field in the thirteen point win.

Offensively Behrend was led by O'Connor with 16 points, while Meagan Bielanin (Erie/Mercyhurst Prep) chipped in 10 points and three steals.

In the championship contest Juniata's Jess Winemiller hit a fade away jumper with 1.5 seconds left to propel the Eagles to the 53-51 win over Bethany. Named to the all-tournament team was Kayla O'Connor (BD), Whitney Hamilton (JCU), Stacy Goode (BET), Lisa Mitchell (BET), Kelly Ashcraft (JU) and Tournament MVP Jess Winemiller (JU).

Next weekend the women's basketball team will travel to Wilmington, OH to take on Manchester in the Fred Raizk Thanksgiving tournament at Wilmington College.  The women will tip-off on Saturday, November 24 at 8:00 p.m.
