Behrend Picks Up Non-Conference Win Over Grove City on Monday Night

The Behrend women's basketball team snagged a non-conference win over the Grove City Wolverines, 57-44 on Monday night
at the Junker Center. Behrend is now 4-5 on the season and 3-2 at home, while the Wolverines fall to 2-6 on year.

In the first twenty minutes of play, Behrend and Grove City battled back-and-forth before the blue and white entered half-time with a one-point advantage, 23-22.

Julia Andrus (Corry/Corry) led all scorers' with ten first half points. She was three-for-seven from the floor and connected on a pair of three-pointers. Jenn Emberg (Cowansville/Kittaning) made her first start of the season and was productive with four points and five boards in 14 minutes of work.

The Wolverines grabbed only their second lead of the evening off a pair of free-throws to start the second half. Andrus answered immediately and it was all Behrend the rest of the way.

The blue and white shot 47% from the field in the second twenty minutes and forced Grove City into 20 turnovers and restricted them to 31% shooting for the game.

Andrus led the scoring with 24 points, while Natalie Engel (McDonald/Fort Cherry) added 11 points and four assists and Meagan Bielanin (Erie/Mercyhurst Prep) chipped in 10 points. Grove City was led by Krista Beechy's 13 points.

The women's basketball team will travel to Ohio to play another non-conference game at Hiram on Wednesday, December 12, to close out the first semester. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
