Fredonia Handles Behrend 69-46 Saturday Night in Junker Center

On Saturday, December 15, the Behrend Lions hosted the Fredonia State Blue Devils in a non-conference game. Behrend entered the game having won five of its past six contests, but was handled by FSU, 69-46 in front of 173 fans in the Junker Center.

The first ten minutes featured an up-tempo affair. At the 9:55 mark Behrend held a 16-11 advantage before Fredonia closed the half on a 23-9 run to take a 34-23 lead into intermission.

Behrend's Jenn Emberg (Cowansville/ Kittaning) making her second start of the season had a strong first half. She led the blue and white with six points and worked the backboard for nine rebounds. Amy Oldach (Erie/Villa Maria) came off the bench to contribute eight points.

The Blue Devils were led by senior guard Maria Scaffidi's 13 point, five rebound effort over the first twenty minutes of play. Behrend shot 30% from the floor, while Fredonia knocked down 50% of its shots.

The second half was all FSU as Behrend could not get within nine. Julia Andrus (Corry/Corry) led Behrend with 11 points. Fredonia's Cheryl Kindzia had a game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds for the Blue Devils, while Scaffidi added 19.

The women are off until January 12 when they welcome AMCC opponent Penn State Altoona to the Junker Center for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off. This will be the first of 14 straight AMCC contests for the blue and white in 2008 prior to the AMCC Tournament beginning on February 26.
