Behrend Women's Basketball Picks Up Key AMCC Win at Home on Saturday

On Saturday, January 12, the Behrend Lions picked up a key AMCC win over conference foe Penn State Altoona 60-50 in the Junker Center. Both teams entered the AMCC contest at 3-1.

Behrend has now won six of eight games and sits at 6-6 overall and 4-1 in the league, while Altoona falls to 5-6 and 3-2 in the AMCC.  The blue and white have now won ten of the past 11 games over their rivals from Altoona.

In the first half Behrend fell behind 6-0 before riding the shoulders of senior Julia Andrus (Corry/Corry). She hit for eight points and two rebounds in eleven minutes of work. The Behrend Lions managed to only shoot 27% from the field, while Altoona hit 48% from the floor. Behrend forced Altoona into 11 turnovers and outrebounded the Lions 19-14, but trailed entering halftime 24-22.

Behrend began the second twenty minutes with a 4-0 start, but Altoona responded by taking a 40-31 lead at the 13:33 mark. Coach Fornari's charges then put together a 12-2 run behind inspired bench play from Jenn Emberg (Cowansville/ Kittaning) to take a 43-42 lead. Down the stretch freshman Amy Oldach (Erie/Villa Maria) hit a pair of huge three-pointers to guide the blue and white to the ten-point win.

Andrus led the scoring with 13 points, while Oldach added 11 points and five rebounds. Altoona was led by Erin McGowan's 15.

Behrend has only conference games remaining before the AMCC Tournament.  Next up is defending champion Medaille (11-1, 6-0) who will host Behrend on January 16 at 6:00 p.m.
