Basketball Handles Mt. Aloysius to Move to 7-4 in AMCC Play The blue and white opened the game on a 7-0 tear. At the 6:53 mark, Mt. Aloysius crept within three at 15-12 before senior Natalie Engle (McDonald/Fort Cherry) hit a three-pointer with 6:15 left to play and followed one minute later with another. The lead swelled to 30-16 entering the half after Behrend's defense forced 16 turnovers and limited the Mounties to 15% shooting from the field. Jenn Emberg (Cowansville/Kittanning) posted seven rebounds and five points, while Kayla O'Connor (Erie/Seneca) came off the bench to add seven markers in the first half. The Mounties started the second half with an 11-6 run to make it 36-27, but that is as close as they would get. Behrend was paced by Julia Andrus (Corry/Corry) and Meagan Bielanin (Erie/Mercyhurst Prep). Andrus dropped 11 points, and six rebounds, while Bielanin had six boards, five assists, five steals and four points. Andrus now has 856 career points and moved into twelfth place on the all-time charts. For the game, Mt. Aloysius shot 29% from the floor and made 31 turnovers. Mt. Aloysius was led by Lindsey Bush with 12 points as they fall to 8-8 overall and 4-7 in the AMCC. Next up for the blue and white will be another home contest this Saturday, February 2. Behrend hosts the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. for an AMCC game. Then Behrend will travel for a pair of league road games before heading back to the Junker Center for three. |
