Behrend Women's Basketball Falls at Home Against Lake Erie

The Behrend women's basketball team fell 61-44 to the Lake Erie Storm on Wednesday, February 20 in the Junker Center.  The Storm's defensive pressure forced a number of Behrend turnovers in the second half when the visitors broke the game open. 

Before the game, Behrend seniors Julia Andrus (Corry/Corry), Meagan Bielanin (Erie/Mercyhurst) and Anne Priester (Wattsburg/Seneca) were honored for their accomplishments over the past four seasons.

In the first half Lake Erie opened up a quick 18-11 lead at the 11 minute mark. The blue and white would respond, rallying to take a 25-24 lead of their own.  The Storm got a few buckets off turnovers to close out the half with a 35-30 lead.  Kayla McLaughlin (Aliquippa/Hopewell) scored ten points on 4-of-6 shooting in the first half, while Natalie Engel (McDonald/Fort Cherry) added seven.

After the break, Lake Erie continued its defensive pressure forcing turnovers and creating easy baskets.  Leading the way for the Storm was Tayla Parnell's 14-point, 15-rebound effort.  Also coming through for Lake Erie were Katelyn Prince with 19 points and Jalisa Mitchell with ten points and five rebounds

For Behrend (12-12, 10-7), McLaughlin led the way with 16 points, while Kayla O'Connor (Erie/Seneca) added eight points and ten rebounds.  Andrus finished with eight points and six boards for the blue and white.

The women will travel to Pitt-Bradford on Saturday, February 23 for their final AMCC game of the regular season.  Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.  The women have already clinched a spot in the AMCC Tournament.  The women will await game matchups for tournament play following Saturday's game.
