Welcome to the Nursing Technology Lab and Simulation Center at Penn State Behrend, 185 Benson Building.

About the Lab:

The Nursing Technology Lab and Simulation Center is equipped with state of the art technology, including multiple simulation mannequins, to create a learning environment which emulates real-life patent care scenarios. Simulation has been demonstrated to be an effective tool in developing critical thinking skills and student competencies in complex healthcare situations.

Housed within the Center are two main areas for student learning. First is a large room, simulating a general nursing unit. Within this space is a nursing station, four beds each with a Laerdal Nursing Anne adult mannequin with VitalSim, as well as an area for pediatric simulation with Laerdal’s Nursing Kid and Nursing Baby, also equipped with VitalSim capabilities. Additionally, located in this room is an area for student teaching and simulator debriefing, where students can view in real time simulations occurring within the Simulation Center.

Second, are two high-fidelity simulation suites with a centralized control center. These suites allow for real-life patient care scenarios to take place. Each room is equipped with patient monitoring equipment as well as advanced audio/visual recording capabilities, allowing the simulation to be recorded and reviewed during a student debriefing session. High fidelity mannequins used in these rooms include the METI ECS adult, PediaSIM ECS and BabySIM mannequins as well as the Gaumard NOELLE/HAL 575 Integrated birthing simulator.
