Filbeck Appointed to Second Named Professorship

Greg Filbeck, former senior vice president of the Wisconsin-based Schweser Study Program, has been named professor of finance and the first Samuel P. Black III Professor of Insurance and Risk Management in the Sam and Irene Black School of Business at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

In March 1998, the Black family created a $20 million endowment for Penn State Behrend’s business school that included four named professorships. Endowed faculty positions are a resource Penn State Behrend draws upon to recruit and sustain a strong faculty. In addition to recognition for the holder, they provide income for teaching and research materials, library acquisitions, salary supplements, and travel assistance.

A second named appointment, the Andrew Morrow and Elizabeth Lee Black Chair in Management Technology, is held by Jeffrey Pinto, professor of management. The two additional professorships are in entrepreneurship and global management.

A division of Kaplan Financial Services, Schweser Study Program is the global provider of educational training materials for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and Financial Risk Manager (FRM) examinations. During his seven years with the company, Filbeck oversaw in-house and contract curriculum development for each exam, conducted live week-long exam-review sessions across the country, and managed the directors of weekly study programs in Philadelphia, Boston, New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Prior to joining Schweser, Filbeck was an associate professor of finance at University of Toledo, Ohio, where he was associate director of the Center for Family Business, and an assistant professor of finance at Miami University, Ohio. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering physics from Murray State University, Kentucky, and a doctoral degree in finance from University of Kentucky.

Filbeck holds the Chartered Financial Analyst, Financial Risk Manager, Professional Risk Manager, and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst professional certifications. He is currently teaching courses in corporate finance, derivatives, risk management, and financial decision-making in Penn State Behrend’s undergraduate and MBA programs, and in Penn State World Campus’ Intercollege MBA online degree program, which is housed in the Knowledge Park business development center adjacent to the Penn State Behrend campus.
