Fall Classes Scheduled Through Plastics Training Academy

The newly created Plastics Training Academy at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will offer a full schedule of workforce development classes in late summer and early autumn.

“Penn State Behrend’s plastics engineering technology faculty has hosted and taught classes, workshops, and seminars to industry for 13 years, but formalization of a Plastics Training Academy through Continuing Education creates a convenient, one-stop information center for companies and individuals,” said Brad Johnson, chair of the Society of Plastics Engineers’ nationwide Injection Molding Division and a lecturer in engineering at the college.

Johnson emphasized that the Plastics Training Academy will continue to offer company-specific contract courses on site; most recently Penn State Behrend instructors have traveled to Texas, Georgia, Alabama, and New Jersey to present in-house training.

Noncredit workforce development training also is offered in the college’s plastics processing laboratory, which, at 10,500 square feet, is the largest educational facility in the country. Courses currently scheduled on campus at Penn State Behrend are:

August:

Aug. 6-10: Injection Molding Maintenance Technology and Practices

Aug. 13-15 : Injection Molding Principles

Aug. 20-22: Injection Molding Troubleshooting

Aug. 29: Advanced Powder Injection Molding

October:

Oct. 9-11: Introduction to the PLC Technology for Plastics Processors

Oct. 29-31: Injection Molding Principles

Oct. 31-Nov.2: Design of Experiments for Injection Molding
