Penn State Alumni Association to Host Annual Steak Fry Fund-raiser

Reservations requested by Monday, July 30

The Lake Erie Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association will host its 2007 steak fry on Saturday, August 4, at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. The annual event, which will be held at the Wilson Picnic Grove on the campus of Penn State Behrend, begins with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by the dinner’s signature “grill your own” steak fry at 6 p.m.

The fund-raiser is open to all Penn State alumni. Proceeds benefit the Lake Erie Chapter’s Robert W. Sparks scholarship fund, which has awarded more than $55,000 to local students in the past 16 years.

Guest speaker Robert Light, senior associate dean for research, graduate studies and outreach at Penn State Behrend, will discuss the college’s role in fulfilling Penn State’s land-grant mission through various research and outreach initiatives. In his 22-year tenure with the college, Light has led several prominent projects, notably Knowledge Park and Pennsylvania Sea Grant.

Along with the 10-ounce strip steak, dinner includes traditional picnic fare—tossed salad, corn on the cob, baked potato, dinner rolls and beverages, plus strawberry shortcake for dessert.

The evening will also include the second annual silent auction, featuring two tickets to the Penn State / University of Michigan football game in Ann Arbor plus other Penn State memorabilia.  The steak fry will conclude with a raffle for several door prizes.

Tickets for the annual steak fry fund-raiser are $19 per person. For more information or to RSVP, contact Phil Mobilia, president of the Lake Erie Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association, at 814-725-1999 (home) or 716-483-7219 (office), or via e-mail at Phil.Mobilia@psualum.com.
