Sen. Ted Kennedy to Speak at Town Hall Meeting
Sen. Edward M. “Ted” Kennedy will appear at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, on Monday, April 14, for a town hall meeting in support of Sen. Barack Obama. The Young Democrats of America, a Penn State Behrend student organization, is hosting the event, which begins at 1:30 p.m. in the McGarvey Commons of the Reed Union Building. It is free and open to the public. Kennedy backed Obama for president in January at an American University event in Washington, D.C., saying, “It is time again for a new generation of leadership.” Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate for 43 years. He was elected in 1962 to finish the final two years of the Senate term of his brother, Senator John F. Kennedy, who was elected President in 1960. Since then, Kennedy has been re-elected to seven full terms, and is now the second most senior member of the Senate. He is active on a wide range of issues, including health care, education reform, immigration reform, raising the minimum wage, defending the rights of workers and their families, strengthening civil rights, assisting individuals with disabilities, fighting for cleaner water and cleaner air, and protecting and strengthening Social Security and Medicare. Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is a comprehensive residential college offering 33 baccalaureate, six associate, four pre-professional and two graduate degree programs with 22 minors to more than 4,400 students.
