Penn State Behrend and LORD Corporation Announce New Scholarship Program

Students Invited to Information Session to Learn More

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, and LORD Corporation announce the LORD Scholarship Program—a unique program for students enrolled, or planning to enroll, in engineering and technical disciplines at Penn State Behrend.

"The LORD scholarship program takes an innovative and unique approach to recruiting future female and minority employees who desire to stay in Erie after graduation,” says Jim Willett, director, advanced process engineering and best practices, LORD Corporation. “Scholarship recipients will be provided an opportunity to apply for internships, co-ops, and summer employment with LORD.”

Students and their parents will have a chance to review the scholarship requirements and learn more about LORD Corporation during an information session on February 19, at 7 p.m. in the Samuel P. “Pat” Black III Conference Center located in the Research and Economic Development Center (REDC) at Penn State Behrend. LORD has allotted $50,000 for the scholarship program over four years and students will have to apply for the scholarship each year. The LORD Corporation Scholarship is available to students considering a major in mechanical or electrical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, electrical and computer engineering technology, software or computer engineering, physics, or chemistry.

"This initiative is exciting for our students,” said Jane Brady, assistant director of admissions and financial aid at Penn State Behrend. “LORD Corporation’s commitment to provide scholarship support and valuable, career-related work experience to Penn State Behrend students majoring in these select academic areas reflects well on our School of Engineering and School of Science.”

Upon graduation and after successfully completing the scholarship program, Penn State Behrend students will be given the opportunity to “obtain valuable mentorship from professionals at LORD and apply for full-time employment with LORD,” said Sharon Sabella, manager, human resources, at the 2000 West Grandview Blvd., location.
