The Lake Erie Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association will host its 2009 steak fry on Saturday, August 15, at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. The annual event is held at the Wilson Picnic Grove at Penn State Behrend. It begins with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by the dinner’s signature “grill your own” steak fry at 6 p.m.

The fund-raiser is open to all Penn State alumni, friends and family. Proceeds benefit the Lake Erie Chapter’s Robert W. Sparks scholarship fund, which has awarded more than $73,000 to local students in the past 18 years.

This year’s guest speaker is Tina Hay, editor of the University’s Penn Stater magazine. The award-winning bimonthly publication is distributed to the Penn State Alumni Association’s 161,000 members. Hay has worked for Penn State for 26 years, the last 13 in her current position and the first 13 as external relations coordinator for the College of Health and Human Development at University Park.

Along with the 10-ounce strip steak, dinner includes traditional picnic fare—tossed salad, corn on the cob, baked potato, dinner rolls and beverages, plus Penn State’s Berkey Creamery ice cream with sundae toppings for dessert.

The evening will also include the fourth annual silent auction, featuring a variety of Penn State memorabilia and other items. The steak fry will conclude with a raffle for several one-of-a-kind door prizes and a 50/50 drawing.

Tickets for the annual steak fry fund-raiser are $20 per person; registration deadline is August 8.
