Autism in Our Community Event held at Penn State Behrend

The second annual Autism in Our Community event will be held on Saturday, March 28, from noon to 6 p.m. in the Junker Center at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. The event is free and open to the public, including any individual on the autism spectrum and any family member or a professional who works with those on the autism spectrum. Parking is available in the Junker Center parking lot. Click here for a campus map.

Autism in our Community is designed to provide information about the services available to families influenced by and managing autism in their lives and to network with others on the autism spectrum. It is jointly hosted by Highmark, KaleidAScope, Inc., the Child and Family Guidance Center of Erie, the Northwestern Pennsylvania Autism Society, and Arc of Erie County.

More than 50 local providers, agencies and organizations are expected to attend. There will also be five hour-long sessions of speakers throughout the day, some of which include multiple experts or panel discussions.

Keynote speaker Rebecca Klaw will begin the speaking engagements at 12:30 p.m. She has more than 21 years of experience working as a consultant, trainer and advocate for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and their families.

The event can be counted toward Act 48 credit hours; cost is $35. Act 48 is Pennsylvania’s continuing professional education law for all educators with state public school certifications.

For more information or to register, visit www.autisminourcommunity.com. Advance registration is not required for those simply planning to attend.
