College For Kids Now Accepting Registrations
Program offering 30 new classes this year
College For Kids (CFK) at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is now accepting registrations for its summer 2009 program. This year’s CFK offers 113 weeklong classes designed to educate, entertain and inspire young people ages 6 to 18. Classes begin the week of June 15 and continue through the week of August 10; no classes will be held the week of June 29.
CFK is offering 30 new programs this year, including Presque Isle Field Studies—an all-day program based at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center, Animal Education: All About Canine Companions, World Mythology, and Let’s Make a Movie.
In recent years, CFK has branched out into the Erie community as well. In 2008, students participated in a week of full-day sailing classes at the Bayfront Center for Maritime Studies. In 2007, eleven CFK students studied under local artist A.J. Noyes to paint the new mural on the exterior of the fountain in Perry Square, located in downtown Erie. Both classes are being offered again this year—Summer Sailing and Mural Painting: A Community Service Project, to be held at the Penn State Behrend Early Learning Center.
CFK, which began in 1993, continues to grow with each passing year. In 2008, the 15th anniversary of the program, CFK had 1,085 registrations and served 457 families representing 566 students.
