Leading in Turbulent Times

Area leaders encouraged to attend free seminar

"Leading in Turbulent Times” is a free seminar that will address current business trends, the implications for leaders, and how to change as conditions do. Sessions will be held in Erie and Oil City, and are sponsored by Continuing Education at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership, and the Regional Center for Workforce Excellence.

“Leading in Turbulent Times” will be offered in Erie on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Knowledge Center, 5240 Knowledge Parkway, from 8 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. and in Oil City on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at PA Careerlink Oil Region, 255 Elm St., Ste. 1, from 8 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Both sessions are free and open to the public, but reservations are required. “There are several elements that contribute to stabilizing and thriving in this economic climate, but leadership is key,” said Michelle Hartmann, area representative for Continuing Education. “The workshop is intended to deliver contemporary, pertinent and thought-provoking ideas on leadership.”

Eric Bergstrom, instructor and assistant director of Penn State’s Management Development Programs and Services, will facilitate the seminar.

Bergstrom teaches and facilitates credit and noncredit business management and organizational development courses. He often presents on organizational transformation and human resource topics, including development, strategic management, management and metrics, and employee empowerment. Prior to joining Penn State, Bergstrom spent more than 20 years in human resources and manufacturing management positions at Sperry New Holland, RCA and R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. He earned a M.Ed. in training and development from Penn State and has completed coursework toward a Ph.D. in workforce education and development.
