Men's golf team wins 2009 AMCC championship The men's golf team at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, captured the 2009 AMCC Championship at Tom's Run Golf Resort in Blairsville, Pa., after winning a tiebreaker against Penn State Altoona. Both finished with team totals of 617 throughout two days of action. Penn State Behrend earned the trophy based on the tiebreaker criteria of best score by the no. 5 golfer on both days of the tournament. Nine teams competed for the title of conference champion. "This was a tough battle in which my team played hard. It came down to the wire, every score counted, and it was great to earn the title," said James Bowen, head coach. On Sunday, Oct. 4, Penn State Behrend charged out to a lead with a team score of 299, led by Pat Petraglia (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley), who fired a tournament best round of 70. Penn State Behrend led Penn State Altoona 303-299 after day one. Penn State Altoona then shot a 314 on Monday, but the Behrend Lions answered with a 318 to forge a team tie at 617. Petraglia stepped up big for the Behrend Lions with a two-day total of 150, while teammate Kevin Koerbel (Gibsonia/Deer Lakes) fired a two-day score of 151 and Joe Nelson (Warren/Warren) posted a 155. This is the second AMCC title for the Penn State Behrend men's golf team, who also the championship in 2004.
