An Espresso Shot of Marketing Wisdom With John Moore
His discussion, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Samuel P. “Pat” Black III Conference Center, located on the first floor of the college’s Research and Economic Development Center (REDC). Parking will be available in the REDC deck on Technology Drive, which is east of Jordan Road. Click here for a campus map. From 1994 through 2004, Moore had the extraordinary opportunity to work deep inside the marketing departments of both Starbucks, where he was intimately involved in its epic growth from a single coffee shop to a global icon, and Whole Foods Market, where he served as retail marketing manager and national marketing director. His 2006 book about his experiences, Tribal Knowledge: Business Wisdom Brewed from the Grounds of Starbucks Corporate Culture, captured the passion and sense of purpose that fueled that company’s successful brand message, and offers actionable insights for following Starbucks’ blueprint to build an endearing and enduring business. Currently, Moore directs the marketing firm and blog Brand Autopsy, helping companies of all sizes to diagnose and treat common marketing ailments, including anemic sales, ideation fatigue, poor brand complexion, and contagious employee apathy. He has been recognized by Fast Company magazine as a “leading practitioner of the arts of customer service and marketing” and is often quoted in business publications. John Moore’s Speaker Series event is sponsored by the Sam and Irene Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend, the Student Activity Fee, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Harriet Behrend Ninow Memorial Lecture Series Fund. The remaining fall semester speaker will be PostSecret.com founder Frank Warren on Thursday, December 10. For more information about Penn State Behrend’s annual Speaker Series, phone the Office of Student Activities at 814-898-6171. |
