In December, Lecturer in Poetry  Sean Thomas Dougherty's review-essay, "Dead Heroes," about Daniel Nester, was published on the front page of American Book Review. Dougherty's poem "Dear Pistachio" appeared in Poetry East, and his poem "Alphabet of Horses & Ordinary Light" appeared in Paper Street and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. His lyric essays, "The Dogs of Budapest" and "Kowalski: A Historiography," were accepted by Cimmaron Review. His essay, "Bags," and his canzone, "The Long Waiting," were accepted by Canada's UnderCurrents and he was invited to read for the issue's release at York College in Toronto. His poem "Stenographer of the Damned" was accepted by Agni. His poem "Rimas Dissolutas IV for Heather" was accepted by Worchester Review. His poem "Hades" was accepted by New York Quarterly. His prose poems "Shift" and "The Sentence" were accepted by The Minnesota Review. His long short story "Chords" was accepted by Many Mountains Moving

Dr. Carl A. Kallgren, associate professor of psychology, recently won the 2005 Public Service Award from the Pennsylvania Psychological Association. The award is given once a year to those individuals who have made "a significant contribution to the public welfare." Dr. Kallgren will receive his award in Harrisburg on Friday, June 17, 2005. 

Dr. Peter B. Southard, assistant professor of management, and Dr. Diane H. Parente, associate professor of management, co-authored "A Model of Internal Benchmarking: When and How?," which was recently accepted for publication by Benchmarking: An International Journal.

Last November four faculty members from the Sam and Irene Black School of Business attended the 35th annual meeting of the Decisions Sciences Institute in Boston, M.A. Dr. Diane Parente and Dr. Southard presented "Internal Benchmarking: A Framework and Case." Dr. Southard also presented "Bruno's: Service Process Improvement at the University Cafeteria Using Discrete Event Simulation." Dr. Eric Jackson, assistant professor of management, presented "A DEA Analysis Using Quality and Advertising as Determinants of Strategic Group Membership in the Automobile Industry." Dr. Kathleen Noce, lecturer in management information systems, and Dr. Parente presented "Consumers to Computers: The Process of Socialization." In addition to presenting papers, Dr. Parente served as an  invited panel discussant on "Online MBA: A SWOT Perspective" and "Strategic Research Planning" for the Doctoral Consortium. She was also the Session Facilitator for "Being Online: Challenges and Advantages." Dr. Noce also served as a Systems Development Session Facilitator.
