Dr. James A. Kurre, associate professor of economics and co-director, Economic Research Institute of Erie, gave a presentation on June 23 at the Erie Community Foundation's annual meeting held in the Yehl Ballroom at Gannon University.  The report, "Philanthropy In Erie County, 2001" is the third in a series that has been done every three years (1997, 2000, and 2003).

This year's study focused on fifty major nonprofit organizations in Erie County, using them as bellwethers of the nonprofit sector locally.  Despite terrorist attacks, the bad economy, and the decline of the stock market, charitable giving to these fifty organizations rose 14.6% from 2000 to 2001, at a time when national donations rose only 0.5%.  This research is the result of a $10,900 grant from the Erie Community Foundation to ERIE.
