Faculty/Staff News of Note November 2006 The Chesapeake Bay Integrated Science Program, National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and Department of Commerce have jointly funded a proposal by Ann Faulds, Pennsylvania Sea Grant’s associate director for the Delaware Estuary, titled “Susquehanna River Aquatic Biodiversity Network.” Ann requested and received $389,347. David Hunnicutt, assistant professor of biology, presented the research “Flavobacterium: Gliding Motility and Pathogenesis” at a symposium held earlier this week at the University of Rhode Island. Leigh-Ann Bedal, lecturer in anthropology, has submitted two proposals for funding of her Petra garden and pool complex excavation project in Jordan—one for $358,819 to the National Endowment for the Humanities and another for $30,000 to the National Geographic Society’s Committee for Research and Exploration. “Erie Area 4 Youth: Infusing the 40 Developmental Assets County-Wide” has been submitted to United Way of Erie County by Carl Kallgren, CORE director. It requests $180,000. David Skellie, coastal land use and economic specialist at Pennsylvania Sea Grant, has requested $49,490 from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Water Planning Office to fund the project “Assessment of Streambank Conditions/Characteristics in Targeted Growth Areas within the Pennsylvania-Lake Erie Watershed.” Michelle Previte, assistant professor of mathematics, and Joseph Previte, associate professor of mathematics, have submitted a three-year grant to the National Science Foundation requesting $284,542 to support the proposal “RUI Program in Vertex Replacement Rules: Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.” Courtney Nagle, lecturer in mathematics, presented the teaching lesson “Exploring Inverse Functions With Tracing Paper,” at the Northwest Ohio Symposium n Science, Mathematics, and Technology Teaching held two weeks ago in Toledo.
