Faculty/Staff News of Note October 2001 Brad Comann, lecturer in English, has had his article, "The Deserving Poor," published in the twenty-fifth anniversary issue of The Cream City Review. Michael
J. Drabik joined the Center for Organizational Research &
Evaluation (CORE) as a project director. Drabik earned his bachelor's
of science degree in psychology with an additional certificate in
business psychology from Behrend in 1999 and has almost thirty years
of professional work experience. His expertise is in designing
databases, including Web-enabled databases, database administration,
data analysis, and retail and human resource management. Drabik is the
project director for the "Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use
Technology" grant with Mercyhurst College and other projects with
CORE. Stephen
Ferruci, lecturer in English, has had his article,
"Composition's Professionalism and the Writing Center Director:
Rethinking the Director as a Teacher," published in a recent issue
of The Writing Instructor. On
behalf of the communication program, John Kerwin, assistant
professor of communication, recently accepted a $500 gift from the
Manufacturer's Association of Northwest Pennsylvania. Students and
former students of Kerwin's video production techniques and theory
class taped a motivational conference on business methods sponsored by
the association. The students edited and prepared the final tape,
which will be used by the Manufacturer's Association at future
events. Cathy
Sargent Mester, senior lecturer in speech communication, was
invited to give the annual education lecture to the Erie chapter of
the International Association of Administrative Professionals. She
presented "The Power of the Spoken Word." Mester also gave a talk,
"Business Presentation Skills," to the senior class of Union City
High School. Her presentation was part of the Pennsylvania Business
Week program sponsored by the Americans for the Competitive Enterprise
System. Dr.
Ido Millet, associate professor of MIS, Dr. Diane Parente,
assistant professor of management, Dr. John Fizel, professor of
economics, and Dr. Ray Venkataraman, associate professor of
management, presented "Electronic Reverse Auctions: Success
Metrics & Dynamics" at the International Federation of
Information Processing Conference on e-Commerce, e-Business, and
e-Government October 3 to 5 in Zurich, Switzerland. Dr.
Gregory Morris, professor of American Literature, had his essay
"Unmasking the Self: Rick Bass as Ecojournalist," published
in a book of essays on Bass's work. The book, edited by O.
Alan Weltzien, is titled The Literary Art and Activism of Rick
Bass.
Dr.
Kimberly A. Skarupski, director of research at CORE, was invited to give a presentation on
the "Process Evaluation and Outcomes Proposal of the Long-Distance
Dads Program" at the International Community Corrections
Association's Thirty-Seventh Annual Conference and Ninth Annual
Research Conference September 24 in Philadelphia. Return
