The lab is strategically designed to demonstrate reader performance, antenna capabilities, tag analysis, ERP system integration, product tagging optimization, and real-time asset tracking. Additionally, the lab may be used for testing and prototyping applications before implementing them into the field.

The RFID Center of Excellence lab is located at the Penn State Behrend campus in Erie, Pennsylvania. The lab is housed at the state-of-the-art 160,000 square foot Research and Economic Development Center (REDC, pronounced "Red C").
The REDC houses both the School of Engineering and the Sam and Irene Black School of Business whose programs are internationally accredited.
